Posco, one of the world’s leading steel producers, has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing steel production technologies by placing an order with Danieli Rotelec for a state-of-the-art Multi-Mode Electro Magnetic Stirrer (MM®-EMS). The new system will be installed on slab caster #1 at Posco's Steel Plant #2 in Gwangyang, Korea. This strategic upgrade is aimed at enhancing the quality of the steel slabs produced by improving the consistency of the casting process.
The MM®-EMS technology is already in operation on slab caster #3 at the same facility. Both slab caster #1 and #3 are designed identically, with the primary difference being the technology used to ensure optimal slab production. The new MM®-EMS system on slab caster #1 will replace the current mould technology supplied by another vendor, ensuring that the slabs produced meet the high-quality standards Posco demands across its operations. The high-end electromagnetic stirring technology will help achieve superior quality in a range of steel grades, from ultra-low to high carbon, with thicknesses of up to 250 mm and widths ranging from 800 to 1,600 mm.
This order marks the 13th installation of Danieli Rotelec's MM®-EMS system at Posco facilities, a testament to the reliability and performance of the technology in enhancing casting quality. By upgrading slab caster #1 with this advanced electromagnetic stirring system, Posco is set to bolster the production of high-quality slabs for its wide range of applications, reinforcing its position as a leader in the global steel market.
The decision to adopt Danieli Rotelec's MM®-EMS technology underpins Posco's strategy to continuously improve its manufacturing processes, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of innovation in steel production. The installation of this new technology will be instrumental in supporting Posco’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-quality steel while maintaining its competitive edge in an increasingly demanding market.
