NMDC Steel: A New Era in HR Steel Production
In a landmark achievement, NMDC Steel Limited, operating with a robust capacity of 3.0 million metric tons per annum, has been recognized as the first All-India Licensee for the manufacture of “Hot-Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems” according to the Indian Standard IS 18384:2023. This prestigious certification was awarded during the Bureau of Indian Standards Foundation Day celebrations held in New Delhi, marking a pivotal moment in NSL’s journey to becoming a leading player in the Indian steel industry.
What is IS 18384:2023 Certification?
The IS 18384:2023 certification is a critical standard that sets the benchmark for steel products used in pipeline transportation systems, specifically in the petroleum and natural gas sectors. Hot-rolled steel used in welded steel pipes must meet stringent quality and safety requirements to ensure the reliability and durability of pipelines that transport vital energy resources. The certification reflects NMDC Steel's commitment to producing high-quality steel products that meet the demanding standards of this vital industry.
Dr. Prashant Sharma, DGM (Chem) and Head of Quality at NMDC Steel, received the award on behalf of the company. The award was presented by Shri Prahlad Joshi, the Hon’ble Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, New and Renewable Energy, in the esteemed presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, and Shri Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General, BIS.
