Shri Manish Raj Gupta's Appointment Marks a New Chapter for SAIL

On 13th January 2025, Shri Manish Raj Gupta assumed the role of Director (Technical, Projects & Raw Materials) at Steel Authority of India Limited. A distinguished mechanical engineering graduate from MANIT Bhopal, Shri Gupta brings with him a wealth of knowledge, having dedicated more than 30 years to the steel industry, all of which have been spent at SAIL.

He began his career at SAIL in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) at the Durgapur Steel Plant, where he soon became known for his technical acumen and leadership skills. Over the years, his contributions have been pivotal in driving operational excellence, improving efficiency, and leading modernization efforts at several SAIL plants.

A Career of Excellence and Leadership

Throughout his tenure, Shri Gupta has held a variety of roles, each contributing significantly to the growth and modernization of SAIL. Notably, during his time at the Durgapur Steel Plant, he played an integral role in enhancing the efficiency and safety standards of the Steel Melting Shop, a crucial part of the plant's operations. His deep technical expertise helped streamline operations, ensuring that the plant remained competitive in an increasingly demanding industry.

In 2019, Shri Gupta was appointed Chief General Manager at the Bokaro Steel Plant, one of SAIL's largest and most significant plants. His leadership here was marked by the successful implementation of several technology upgrades and participation in critical modernization projects aimed at boosting production capacity and operational effectiveness.

Following his success at Bokaro, Shri Gupta took on the role of Executive Director (Works) at IISCO Steel Plant, where he focused on enhancing sustainability, optimizing costs, and promoting the adoption of digital technologies to improve production processes and plant operations. His commitment to sustainability and efficiency has contributed immensely to the plant’s long-term viability.

Corporate Leadership and Strategic Coordination

Most recently, Shri Gupta served as Executive Director In-charge (Operations) at SAIL’s Corporate Office, where his strategic vision was key in improving operational efficiency across the company. His ability to drive coordination between various departments and plants has played a vital role in aligning SAIL’s operations with the company’s long-term goals, particularly with respect to cost management and resource optimization.

Shri Gupta's leadership and technical expertise are expected to bring fresh perspectives and enhanced capabilities to SAIL's efforts in raw materials management, project execution, and technical operations as he takes on the mantle of Director for these key divisions. His vast experience, particularly in digitalization, modernization, and sustainability, will no doubt help steer SAIL toward continued success in the competitive global steel market.
