INOXAP’s Milestone with the Largest ASU at Bokaro Steel Plant

In a notable development in India’s industrial gas sector, INOX Air Products Limited has launched its largest-ever air separation unit at Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bokaro Steel Plant, marking a substantial leap in industrial gas production. This investment, amounting to $87 million, underscores INOXAP’s expanding presence in the country’s growing steel and industrial gas markets.

A Giant Leap in Industrial Gas Capacity

The newly commissioned ASU at the Bokaro plant is designed with an impressive capacity of 2,150 metric tons per day, making it the largest air separation unit ever installed at any SAIL facility. The ASU will provide essential industrial gases for various processes within the steel manufacturing sector, enhancing efficiency and production capabilities at the Bokaro Steel Plant.

Key Outputs and Capacity

The ASU will generate:

2,000 metric tons per day of gaseous oxygen,

150 metric tons per day of liquid oxygen,

1,200 metric tons per day of gaseous nitrogen, and

100 metric tons per day of argon gas.

This substantial output of gaseous oxygen and nitrogen is expected to play a crucial role in steelmaking, a process that relies heavily on these gases for various stages such as combustion and oxidation. The liquid oxygen and argon are equally vital for industries like welding, chemical production, and electronics.

Continuing Partnership and Expansion

This new ASU is an addition to INOXAP’s existing operations at the Bokaro steel mill. The company previously operated a smaller ASU with a capacity of 1,250 metric tons per day at the same facility. The increased capacity is expected to meet the growing demands of both SAIL and other industries relying on these industrial gases for manufacturing and production.

By expanding its operations, INOXAP aims to strengthen its foothold in the Indian industrial gases market, supporting the manufacturing needs of key sectors like steel, chemicals, and automotive.

With this investment and expansion, INOX Air Products has further solidified its role as a key player in India’s industrial growth, particularly in supporting the country's thriving steel sector.
