Strong Partnership within GMH Gruppe Drives Innovation in Aluminium Die-Casting Tools
The collaboration between two leading forces within the GMH Gruppe, Schmiedewerke Gröditz GmbH and Edelstahlwerk Kind & Co. GmbH, marks a new chapter in the development of advanced aluminium die-casting tools. This partnership has set a high bar for precision, sustainability, and innovation in the automotive sector. Through the synergy of these two renowned companies, they are delivering state-of-the-art solutions for large, undivided die-casting moulds, highlighting their joint capabilities in the highly competitive industry.
A Massive Milestone: Large-Scale Die-Casting Tool Project
The crown jewel of this collaboration is the production of a massive die-casting tool weighing a total of 30 metric tons. This project involves the integration of large mould inserts manufactured by Schmiedewerke Gröditz using the upsetting/reverse forging process, which produces inserts of 8.3 metric tons and 9.6 metric tons each. These high-precision mould inserts are complemented by Kind & Co., which supplies the smaller mould components that fit seamlessly into the final structure. Additionally, Kind & Co. oversees the hardening treatment of all inserts using advanced vacuum furnace technology, ensuring durability and top-tier performance for the die-casting tool.
A Seamless Collaboration with Global Expertise
This project stands out not only for its impressive technical specifications but also for the expertise integrated into the process. The die-casting tool’s design is handled by a renowned German mould maker, while an international die-casting manufacturer takes responsibility for the production of the final product. By aligning these competencies, GMH Gruppe provides customers with an end-to-end solution that combines quality, efficiency, and innovation. This kind of all-inclusive process chain is particularly beneficial for the automotive sector, where high standards and cost-efficiency are paramount.
Integration and Synergies Within GMH Gruppe
Since September 2024, Edelstahlwerk Kind & Co. has officially become part of the GMH Gruppe, which Schmiedewerke Gröditz has been a part of for over 25 years. This integration has significantly enhanced their ability to combine forces and provide even more innovative solutions. The successful collaboration on this die-casting mould project is one of the first fruits of their joined expertise. Dr. Alexander Becker, CEO of GMH Gruppe, points out that this partnership exemplifies how the integration of Kind & Co. into GMH Gruppe strengthens their market position as the third-largest forging group in Europe. By pooling their knowledge and capabilities, the companies are offering products that are not only high in quality but also cost-effective and sustainable.
Sustainability at the Core of GMH Gruppe’s Approach
Sustainability has always been a guiding principle for GMH Gruppe. The companies in the group rely on resource-saving production processes, emphasizing the importance of reducing environmental impact. The primary material used in manufacturing these die-casting tools is melted from recycled steel scrap in electric arc furnaces, a process that significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, fivefold, compared to conventional blast furnace operations. Furthermore, the die-casting moulds are fully recyclable at the end of their lifecycle, ensuring that the materials are reintroduced into the production cycle.
Both Schmiedewerke Gröditz and Kind & Co. are committed to innovative, sustainable technologies. Il-Kyu Lee, Managing Director of Schmiedewerke Gröditz GmbH, highlights how the companies are exceeding customer expectations by focusing on both quality and sustainability. Similarly, Dr. Martin Löwendick, Managing Director of Edelstahlwerk Kind & Co. GmbH & Co. KG, emphasizes that the precision technologies and eco-friendly processes they use make them a strong partner for delivering innovative vehicle components.
Setting New Industry Standards for the Automotive Sector
This pioneering collaboration between Schmiedewerke Gröditz and Edelstahlwerk Kind & Co. is setting new industry benchmarks for aluminium die-casting tools, particularly in the automotive industry. Their sustainable approach combined with cutting-edge technology is helping shape the future of vehicle manufacturing, ensuring that the aluminium die-casting industry remains at the forefront of environmental responsibility and operational excellence. With GMH Gruppe's strong emphasis on innovation and collaboration, this partnership is a prime example of how leading companies in the forging and die-casting industry can come together to meet the evolving demands of the market while keeping sustainability a central goal.
Through this joint venture, Schmiedewerke Gröditz and Edelstahlwerk Kind & Co. are not only proving their technical capabilities but also contributing significantly to reducing the environmental impact of automotive production. Their work together demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships in delivering outstanding, sustainable solutions that meet the challenges of the future.
