India followed in second place with 13.6 million metric tons for December, reflecting a 9.5% growth from the previous year. Over the course of 2024, India’s production rose by 6.3%, reaching 149.6 million metric tons. In third place, Japan produced 6.9 million metric tons in December, down by 1.1%, with a total of 84.0 million metric tons for the year, which was a 3.4% decline. The United States produced 6.7 million metric tons in December, a decrease of 2.4%, contributing to a total of 79.5 million metric tons in 2024, also down by 2.4%.
