Explosion at Steel Factory Causes Severe Burns to Workers
In a tragic accident early in the morning, a furnace explosion at a steel factory in Bharua Sumerpur town, located in the Hamirpur district, led to serious injuries for three workers. The explosion, which took place at around 5 AM, occurred in a 40-metric ton furnace used in the steel manufacturing process. The blast caused molten metal to splash onto the workers nearby, resulting in severe burns.
The workers, who were in close proximity to the furnace, were immediately affected by the high heat and molten material. While two of the injured workers are receiving treatment at the factory's on-site medical facility, one critically injured individual has been transferred to Kanpur for advanced medical care. The incident has raised significant concern among the factory workforce, prompting a review of safety protocols at the facility.
Cause of the Explosion: Oil Leakage from the Boiler
According to Rajesh Kamal, the Circle Officer (City) of the area, the explosion was caused by an oil leakage from the factory's boiler system. This leak resulted in the furnace becoming unstable, leading to the blast. The workers, identified as Bijwan from Jhusi, Prayagraj, and Hira Yadav from Saraha, Bihar, sustained burns and are under medical care at the factory’s private hospital. The third worker, Ramphal from Dharmeshwar Baba, was transferred to a hospital in Kanpur for specialized treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Medical Response and Immediate Treatment
In response to the explosion, the factory acted swiftly to provide initial medical treatment to the injured workers at the company's on-site medical facility. Emergency services were contacted, and one worker was immediately transported to Kanpur for advanced care due to the extent of the burns. The factory’s quick reaction helped prevent further casualties, but the seriousness of the incident has led to concerns over worker safety, especially in facilities handling high-temperature operations like furnaces.
The factory management has not issued a public statement yet, but local authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the boiler leak and to identify any lapses in safety protocols.
