PT Gunung Raja Paksi, a leading steel manufacturer in Indonesia, is playing a pivotal role in the construction of Microsoft Indonesia’s data center by supplying high-strength steel tailored for demanding infrastructure projects. This partnership was highlighted during GRP’s recent customer appreciation day, where the theme was “Uniting for Stronger Connection and Greater Impact.” The event showcased GRP's commitment to providing durable materials essential for modern construction.
GRP's high-strength steel is engineered to exceed conventional standards, boasting a yield strength of over 350 megapascals and a tensile strength surpassing 450 MPa. This performance significantly outstrips that of mild steel, which typically has a yield strength of around 250 MPa and a tensile strength of 400 MPa. The enhanced capabilities of GRP's steel make it an ideal choice for the rigorous demands of data center infrastructure.
Budi Prasetya, the construction quality manager for Jakarta projects at Microsoft Indonesia, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. He noted that GRP successfully met Microsoft’s high-quality standards, including compliance with Indonesian national specifications. “This partnership illustrates how locally sourced materials can stand toe-to-toe with global standards in infrastructure projects,” Prasetya remarked.
The environmental aspect of this collaboration is equally noteworthy. GRP's steel production utilizes over 70% scrap material through electric arc furnace (EAF) technology. This method not only reduces carbon emissions compared to traditional steel-making processes but also aligns with Microsoft’s sustainability goals. Fedaus, GRP’s president director, expressed pride in the company’s contribution to this environmentally conscious initiative. He stated that the steel provided is not only of high quality but also features a low carbon footprint, certified by the Environmental Product Declaration.
Moreover, this project represents a significant step forward in Indonesia’s construction industry. By using high-strength steel from a local supplier, Microsoft Indonesia is demonstrating its commitment to fostering local economies while ensuring that its infrastructure meets global sustainability and quality standards.
