On the evening of May 22, 2024, ArcelorMittal hosted the third edition of its Women's Award, a prestigious event that spotlights the achievements and innovations of women in Brazil. Held in Espírito Santo, Ceará, and Santa Catarina, the ceremony was a vibrant celebration of female leadership and creativity, broadcast live on YouTube to a global audience.
This year's award saw 77 finalists competing in six categories, including academia, press, private companies, public authorities, the third sector, and ArcelorMittal employees. These categories were meticulously designed to encompass the diverse areas where women are making substantial impacts.
Jorge Oliveira, CEO of ArcelorMittal Flat Steel Latin America, emphasized the award's significance during the ceremony. "The ArcelorMittal Women's Award is not just a celebration of outstanding achievements but also an acknowledgment of the transformative effects these women have on their communities and sectors," Oliveira remarked. He highlighted the company's commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that promotes equal opportunities for all.
The ceremony was not only a platform to honor these women but also served as an inspiration for future initiatives. Jorge Adelino de Faria, Vice President of Operations at ArcelorMittal Aços Planos, noted the inspiring nature of the projects presented, particularly those from Santa Catarina, a new addition to this year's award locations.
Erick Torres, CEO of ArcelorMittal's Pecém unit, reflected on the expansion of the award into Ceará, expressing enthusiasm for its potential growth in future editions. "Each finalist brings a unique light, indicative of their transformative impact on our daily lives and industries," said Torres, underscoring the personal and professional revolutions these women drive.
The winners from various states were announced during the ceremony, each recognized for their innovative projects and contributions to their fields. From advancing agroecosystem management and enhancing steel plate dispatch systems with RFID technology to promoting mental health through television series and supporting disability innovation, the scope of projects highlighted the extensive influence of these women across different sectors.
Since its inception in 2019, the ArcelorMittal Women's Award has been a cornerstone in promoting gender equality and recognizing the pivotal role of women in driving societal and industrial change. Each winner received a gift card worth R$5,000, a certificate, a trophy, and an exclusive pendant from ArcelorMittal, symbolizing their excellence and pioneering spirit.
Moreover, all 77 finalists were given the opportunity to partake in a 32-hour training program, tailored to further enhance their skills and expand their impact. This initiative not only celebrates their current achievements but also equips them for continued success and leadership.
