Koç Metalurji's Expansion: Strategic Investment in Steel Production and Sustainability

In a move that marks a significant milestone for the Turkish steel industry, Koç Metalurji, a domestic steelmaker based in Hatay, has placed an order worth €4.62 million, including tax, with Turkey's BVS Bülbüloğlu Vinç Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. The order is for the supply of a double girder overhead crane that will be used at Koç Metalurji’s newly under-construction rebar and wire rod plant. The delivery of this advanced machinery is scheduled to be completed within five to nine months, furthering the company’s efforts to enhance production capabilities.

This crane will play a crucial role in Koç Metalurji's $40 million hot rolling mill project, which aims to significantly boost the company's production output. Currently, the company’s rebar production capacity stands at 500,000 metric tons per year, but with the completion of the new mill, this figure will increase to 900,000 metric tons per year. This expansion is not only focused on increasing production but also on ensuring sustainability in Koç Metalurji’s operations.

A $40 Million Investment in Production and Sustainability

Koç Metalurji’s hot rolling mill project is a crucial step in meeting the growing demand for steel products in Turkey and abroad. With an investment of $40 million, the company is taking bold steps to increase its capacity to produce rebar and wire rod. The expansion will not only strengthen Koç Metalurji’s position in the Turkish steel market but also contribute to its long-term growth in the global steel industry.

Part of the project’s focus is on sustainable production. Koç Metalurji plans to meet the energy needs of its new mill with the installation of a solar power plant. This green energy initiative is designed to reduce the environmental impact of steel production and help the company adhere to international sustainability standards. The use of renewable energy for powering the mill is an important aspect of the company’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency, as it seeks to minimize its carbon footprint.

Overhead Crane Order: A Key Component in Enhanced Production

The overhead crane from BVS Bülbüloğlu Vinç is an essential part of Koç Metalurji’s expansion plan. Double girder overhead cranes are designed for heavy-duty lifting and handling in manufacturing plants, making them ideal for the rebar and wire rod production processes. These cranes will enable the efficient movement of raw materials and finished products within the plant, ensuring smoother operations and increased productivity.

The planned delivery timeline of five to nine months reflects the scope and complexity of the project. It highlights the focus on advanced equipment and technology as Koç Metalurji works to modernize its production facilities. The addition of this overhead crane aligns with the company’s strategic goals of improving operational efficiency and increasing output.
