Tosyalı Holding, one of the world's foremost steel producers, has significantly increased its annual steel production capacity, reaching a total of 15 million metric tons per year. This substantial growth in production capacity comes after years of strategic investments in both domestic and international markets, including the acquisition of the Bastuğ Metalurji steel plant. The company’s success in expanding its global footprint, while navigating various economic challenges, highlights its resilience and commitment to innovation.

In 2024, Tosyalı’s Turkish operations alone produced 6 million metric tons of steel, bringing the country’s total annual steel production capacity to 8 million metric tons, an increase of 2 million metric tons. Tosyalı CEO Fuat Tosyali remarked on the significant global economic changes in recent years, from the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to ongoing geopolitical tensions and the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. Despite these challenges, the company has continued to expand its capacity and forge new paths for development, ensuring the growth of the Turkish economy and its own long-term stability.

One of the most notable developments in Tosyalı's international expansion has been its growing presence in Algeria, Libya, Angola, Senegal, and Spain. The company is actively focusing on improving production efficiency and sustainability through investments in renewable energy sources and cyclic production technologies. These initiatives reflect Tosyalı's ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility while meeting the increasing global demand for steel.

A key milestone in Tosyalı’s strategy is the successful commissioning of its second Direct Reduced Iron plant in Algeria, which operates using natural gas as a cleaner alternative to traditional blast furnaces. The DRI process allows the company to produce high-quality steel with reduced carbon emissions. This new plant strengthens Tosyalı’s foothold in North Africa and increases its competitiveness in the European steel market. With a total DRI production capacity of 5 million metric tons, Tosyalı is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for sustainable steel products in both regions.

Tosyalı's expansion into global markets, particularly in China, where it exported products for the first time in 2024, marks a major achievement for the company. The company’s global strategy is focused on offering high-quality steel products at competitive prices, which is essential in a global market saturated with cheaper products, especially those from China. As Fuat Tosyali explained, dealing with the oversupply of low-cost Chinese steel in the Turkish market has been a challenge. However, by maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and innovation, Tosyalı is positioning itself as a key player in the global steel industry.

The company’s commitment to sustainability is also evident in its development of V-Green steel, a brand aimed at producing eco-friendly steel products. By leveraging new technologies and forming strategic partnerships, Tosyalı is actively working to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the global effort to address climate change. This focus on sustainable development aligns with the growing global emphasis on environmentally responsible manufacturing and puts Tosyalı at the forefront of the steel industry’s transition to greener practices.

Looking ahead, Tosyalı is preparing for future challenges, both in terms of economic volatility and environmental sustainability. The company is prioritising research and development (R&D) to explore new technologies that can further improve production efficiency and reduce emissions. Tosyalı Algerie, in particular, is set to complete the fourth phase of its capacity expansion project by 2025, which includes the construction of a new DRI plant, electric arc furnaces, and hot and cold rolling mills. This expansion will further enhance the company’s ability to produce high-quality steel in a more environmentally friendly manner, with an emphasis on green technologies.

Through these investments and innovations, Tosyalı is not only increasing its steel production capacity but also ensuring its role as a leader in the global steel industry. By expanding both in terms of production and geographical reach, the company is strengthening its position in key markets worldwide. With a focus on sustainability, technological advancement, and the development of a competitive, high-quality product offering, Tosyalı is poised for continued success in an ever-changing global economy.
