In a significant development for Mexico's steel industry, Frisa, the self-proclaimed leader in custom-forged steel solutions in the country, is on the brink of inaugurating its newest manufacturing facility. This state-of-the-art plant, equipped with a cutting-edge mill, is designed to produce large-size special steel bars with diameters ranging from 3-3/4 inches to an impressive 16 inches. The facility boasts a remarkable annual production capacity of 400,000 metric tons, marking a substantial expansion in Frisa's manufacturing capabilities.
The company recently announced through its social media channels that the hot-rolled bar mill is nearly ready to commence operations. This announcement comes with a slight delay from the initially projected timeline, adding an air of anticipation to the launch. The new facility represents a significant leap forward in Frisa's production capabilities, allowing the company to meet growing demand for specialized steel products across various industries.
At the heart of this new plant is the long product rolling mill, supplied by Italian technology giant Danieli. Known for its expertise in steel manufacturing equipment, Danieli's involvement underscores the high-tech nature of Frisa's new facility. The Italian company had initially estimated that the mill would begin operations in the second quarter of this year, but the slight delay has not dampened expectations for the plant's impact on Frisa's production capacity.
The investment in this new facility is part of a larger strategic plan announced by Frisa's chairman of the board, Eduardo Garza Junco. Last year, Garza Junco revealed that the company would invest $200 million to bolster production at its plants in García and Santa Catarina, both located in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León. García, situated 14 miles northwest of Santa Catarina, and Santa Catarina, located 10 miles west of the state capital Monterrey, form a crucial industrial corridor for Frisa's operations.
The new mill's capability to produce special quality bars in large diameters is particularly significant. This range of products is crucial for industries requiring high-strength, precision-engineered steel components.
