Hengyang Valin Steel Pipe Expands with Danieli’s FQM® Technology

Hengyang Valin Steel Pipe, one of China’s leading manufacturers of seamless steel pipes, has partnered with Danieli to implement FQM® technology in a new state-of-the-art hot-rolling production line. This advanced technology will enable the production of extra-large diameter seamless pipes with diameters ranging from 323.8 mm to 610 mm and wall thicknesses between 7.2 mm and 65 mm. The facility, located in Hengyang, Hunan province, will have an annual production capacity of 800,000 metric tons, catering to the growing demand in the energy and infrastructure sectors both domestically and internationally.

Technological Innovations:

The new production line will feature Danieli's Fine Quality Mill (FQM®), which is designed to produce seamless pipes of the highest quality. Among the technological innovations are the cone-type piercing mill and the retained mandrel mill, both key components in achieving precision and high-quality outputs. These technologies have been specifically chosen to meet the rigorous demands of large diameter pipes used in energy projects and infrastructure developments.

One of the most exciting developments in this project is the incorporation of Danieli’s patent-pending extracting and sizing mills. These 3-roll type mills are designed to enhance the sizing process and provide a more consistent and controlled output. The mills will be equipped with fixed and adjustable stands, and will feature alternate bilateral changeover, which significantly enhances both the technological and operational efficiency of the entire production process.

Project Timeline and Capabilities:

This ambitious project is scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2026, further strengthening Hengyang Valin Steel Pipe’s capabilities in the seamless pipe market. The integration of Danieli Automation will provide comprehensive process control and systems, ensuring that the production line runs smoothly and efficiently, while optimizing quality and output.

The 800,000 metric tons per year production capacity will enable Hengyang Valin to manufacture large diameter seamless pipes for use in the energy, infrastructure, and other critical sectors. This expansion is poised to boost the company’s presence both in the domestic Chinese market and internationally, solidifying its role as a key player in the global steel industry.
