The Index Fair 2024, a premier event held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from June 4 to 6, witnessed the vibrant inauguration of the EPCH India Pavilion by Mr. K. Kalimuthu, Consul Commerce, Consulate General of India, Dubai. This auspicious start marked the beginning of a showcase where Indian exporters seized opportunities to exhibit their exquisite handicraft products to discerning buyers from the Middle East region. Among the distinguished guests were Mr. R. K. Verma, Executive Director - EPCH, and various member exporters, who underscored the council's commitment to promoting India's rich cultural heritage on a global stage.
Mr. Rajesh Rawat, Additional Executive Director of EPCH, highlighted the extensive participation of member exporters from across India, each presenting an exclusive range of products tailored for the discerning UAE market. The event served as a pivotal platform for these artisans to engage with international buyers and explore new business prospects.
The Consul Commerce, Mr. K. Kalimuthu, lauded EPCH's persistent efforts in bolstering India's handicraft exports and fostering bilateral trade relations with the UAE. His interaction with Indian exhibitors further reinforced support for enhancing business opportunities within the region.
Chairman of EPCH, Mr. Dileep Baid, emphasized the strategic significance of Index Dubai, the largest trade fair in West Asia & North Africa for design-led home and hotel products. He highlighted EPCH's consistent presence at the fair, facilitated by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, showcasing the versatility and craftsmanship excellence of Indian artisans.
Mr. R. K. Verma, Executive Director of EPCH, noted the diverse representation at the EPCH India pavilion, with exhibitors from prominent craft clusters including Ahmedabad, Karur, Bangalore, Chennai, Panipat, Saharanpur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Moradabad, and Delhi NCR. These participants showcased a wide spectrum of home décor, lifestyle products, textiles, furniture, and accessories, catering to the high standards of the Middle Eastern market.
The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts serves as a pivotal organization promoting India's handicraft exports and elevating the profile of skilled artisans nationwide. In the fiscal year 2023-24, handicraft exports reached $3.956 billion, with exports to the UAE alone totaling $247 million, marking a notable growth of 15.91% in rupee terms and 12.60% in dollar terms from the previous year. These figures, shared by Mr. R. K. Verma, underscored the sector's robust performance and its pivotal role in India's export economy.
