ArcelorMittal Hamburg, a key player in the global steel industry, is set to welcome a new leader at its helm. Monika Boh, a seasoned professional with nearly three decades of experience in the steel sector, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Hamburg. This significant change in leadership comes as the company faces the ongoing challenge of decarbonization in the steel industry.

Monika Boh's journey to the top position at ArcelorMittal Hamburg is a testament to her extensive experience and expertise in the steel industry. Her career spans 29 years, during which she has worked in various capacities, including steel plant engineering, direct steel plant operations, and management roles in steel-producing companies. This diverse background has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the industry's intricacies, from technical processes to strategic management.

Boh's educational background has played a crucial role in shaping her career. She holds a Master of Science in Metallurgy from the Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria, a prestigious institution known for its focus on mining, metallurgy, and materials. Additionally, she has completed an MBA course in general management, further enhancing her business acumen. This combination of technical knowledge and management skills positions her well to lead ArcelorMittal Hamburg through the complex challenges facing the steel industry today.

Prior to her appointment as CEO, Boh had already been serving as the Chief Operating Officer of ArcelorMittal Hamburg since July 1, 2024. This recent experience within the company provides her with valuable insights into its operations and culture, which will be crucial as she transitions into her new role. Before joining ArcelorMittal, Boh held significant positions in other steel companies, including roles as a metallurgical process engineer and plant manager. Her most recent positions before ArcelorMittal included serving as a plant manager at Buderus Edelstahl and later as the managing director of the Bous steel plant.

In her statement following the announcement of her appointment, Boh acknowledged the significant work ahead. She expressed her enthusiasm for contributing to making the Hamburg site fit and competitive for the future, particularly in light of the decarbonization challenge. This forward-looking approach suggests that under her leadership, ArcelorMittal Hamburg will likely focus on innovation and sustainability alongside its traditional focus on production and efficiency.

The transition in leadership sees Boh taking over from Dr. Uwe Braun, who will be moving on to new responsibilities within the ArcelorMittal Europe Long Products organization. To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Braun will remain a member of the board in Hamburg during the transition phase. This overlap in leadership should help maintain continuity and stability within the organization as it undergoes this significant change at the top.
