In a significant development for the Steel Authority of India Limited, Alok Verma has been selected as the new Director in-charge of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). This appointment comes after a recommendation from the Public Enterprises Selection Board panel during their meeting on October 17, 2024. Verma, who currently serves as Executive Director (Works) at SAIL, emerged from a competitive pool of twelve candidates, of which eleven were from SAIL and one from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited.
Verma's extensive experience within SAIL positions him well for this new role. As the Director in-charge, he will be a vital member of the Board of Directors and will report directly to the Chairman of SAIL. His primary responsibilities will include overseeing the efficient operation of the Rourkela Steel Plant and the associated mines, ensuring that corporate objectives and performance metrics are met. This role is crucial, especially in light of the ongoing efforts to enhance productivity and operational efficiency within the steel sector.
