In a significant move for the steel industry, Salzgitter Flachstahl announced the appointment of Dr. Heike Denecke-Arnold as the new chairwoman of its management board, effective May 1, 2025. She will succeed Ulrich Grethe, who is set to retire on December 31, 2024. Dr. Denecke-Arnold is a highly qualified professional with a rich background in the steel sector. With more than 25 years of management experience, she has expertise in various critical areas, including production, quality assurance, logistics, and supply chain management. Her academic journey began at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, where she studied metallurgy and materials science, ultimately earning a doctorate in the field.

Gunnar Groebler, chairman of the supervisory board of SZFG and CEO of Salzgitter AG, expressed confidence in Dr. Denecke-Arnold’s capabilities. He noted, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Denecke-Arnold, a distinguished expert in steel, to lead our company. We are in the midst of a transformation towards low CO₂ production processes.
