Kobe Steel Corporation, a leading Japanese steel manufacturer, has revealed plans for a substantial capital investment at its Kakogawa Steel Works, specifically at the facility's Thin Sheet Plant. The company is set to remodel its existing hot-dip galvanized steel sheet equipment as part of its strategy to begin in-house integrated production of KOBEMAG® by fiscal year 2029. The total investment amounts to approximately 32 billion yen, a move that underscores the company’s commitment to meeting growing customer demand and further enhancing its production capabilities. The KOBEMAG® brand represents a high-performance, zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated steel sheet that was first introduced to the market by Kobe Steel in 2017. In the early stages, Kobe Steel partnered with Nissin Steel for the OEM sales and plating consignment processing of these advanced steel sheets. However, with the increasing demand for KOBEMAG® and the positive feedback from customers, the company has decided to bring production in-house, which will allow for greater control over the manufacturing process and a more efficient supply chain.
