In a groundbreaking initiative to bridge the digital divide, Nokia has partnered with Global Fiber Peru to deploy a state-of-the-art subaquatic fiber network in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. This future-proof optical, IP, and XGS-PON fiber broadband network is set to revolutionize connectivity in the region, bringing ultra-fast, multi-gigabit broadband services to over 500,000 people across 400 communities for the first time.

The extensive network, buried in the depths of the Amazon River, interconnects the localities of Iquitos and Santa Rosa de Yaraví in Peru, Leticia in Colombia, and Tabatinga in Brazil. This strategic deployment allows Global Fiber Peru to offer the first FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) broadband access service in the region, as well as multi-gigabit services for enterprise users. The three-border area boasts a diversified economy, including oil production, agriculture, timber extraction, fishing, tourism, and border trade, all of which stand to benefit greatly from enhanced connectivity.

Nokia's comprehensive solution encompasses a range of cutting-edge technologies, including the 1830 Photonic Service Switch, 7750 service routers, 7250 interconnect routers, 7210 services access systems, network service platform, FX 8 and FX 16 optical line terminals, fiber optical network terminals, and Nokia Beacon 1 devices. These components work in harmony to ensure a premium Wi-Fi experience within customer premises. The deployment was carried out in collaboration with FYCO, a local partner specializing in fiber telecom networks in Latin America.

Rocío Castilla, CEO at Grupo Satelital, emphasized the project's significance, stating, "For the impact it has on social, economic, and educational development, providing thousands of people with access to high-quality internet, this project is of utmost relevance for our company." She further praised Nokia's leadership, expertise, and innovative solutions as key drivers of the project's success.

Obed Dionisio, CEO at Global Fiber, expressed pride in being the first company to successfully deploy an optical fiber network in the depths of the Amazon River, connecting three countries. He highlighted the project's ability to bridge a significant digital gap in remote areas previously inaccessible by traditional means, bringing isolated communities on par with urban areas in terms of connectivity.

Edwar Juárez, Co-CEO at FYCO, commended the bold and strategic decision to invest in and support SATELITAL Group in this major initiative. He emphasized the importance of utilizing Nokia's technology and innovation to bring connectivity to a region where the dense jungle has long isolated numerous communities, contributing to the development and quality of life of the people living there.

Osvaldo Di Campli, SVP & Head of Network Infrastructure Americas at Nokia, underscored the project's significance in providing fiber connections for the first time to hundreds of communities in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. He stressed the importance of broadband connectivity in helping communities and local businesses grow and prosper, expressing Nokia's satisfaction in being part of this project and appreciating Global Fiber Peru's trust in Nokia and FYCO.
