Proov, a pioneering force in the realm of biometric identity solutions, has made history by becoming the first company to secure global certification for face biometric identity verification from the FIDO Alliance. This groundbreaking achievement marks a significant milestone for the industry, as the FIDO Alliance strives to reduce the world's reliance on passwords through the implementation of robust remote identity verification systems based on facial biometrics.

The FIDO Alliance, a prominent open industry association, has introduced this new certification programme to rigorously evaluate the performance and usability of such systems. iProov's Dynamic Liveness Solution underwent a stringent accreditation process conducted by Ingenium Biometrics, a FIDO face verification accredited lab. The solution emerged triumphant, seamlessly passing over 10,000 tests with a flawless success record, including a remarkable 0% Imposter Attack Presentation Accept Rate and an impressive 0.14% False Reject Rate.

The landscape of digital identity verification has witnessed a rapid expansion over the past five years, with Juniper Research projecting more than 70 billion digital identity checks to be conducted in 2024. This surge can be largely attributed to the digital transformation of traditionally in-person services, which has underscored the critical importance of building trust with users. The FIDO Alliance's new certification programme aims to assist organizations in making well-informed decisions when selecting biometric identity verification solutions, ensuring secure and equitable access to digital services on a global scale.

Andrew Bud, the visionary founder and CEO of iProov, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this remarkable achievement. He stated, "For the first time, governments and enterprises worldwide can rely on an industry-recognised, large-scale biometric performance standard and certification programme. Finally, they can specify and procure biometrics with presentation attack liveness defences with confidence in a third-party benchmark. iProov is delighted to have met and exceeded this standard, further cementing the trust that numerous governments, large enterprises, and leading trust service providers have in our solutions."

The strategic significance of this certification was further emphasized by Andrew Shikiar, executive director and CEO of the FIDO Alliance. He remarked, "The FIDO Alliance's face verification certification programme expands our market-leading certification initiatives, reflecting the critical role of onboarding, enrollment, and re-binding identities to accounts. Strengthening these vulnerability points underpins our commitment to reducing the reliance on passwords and other knowledge-based credentials, thereby providing greater trust and support to the ecosystem."

Key partners within the industry have also rallied behind iProov, expressing their support and accolades for this momentous achievement. Loren Russon, SVP Product & Technology Alliances at Ping Identity, noted, "Ping has long supported the evolution from knowledge-based approaches to type 3 strong authentication methods that use biometrics. This FIDO certification of iProov's Dynamic Liveness Solution signals to the industry that inherence-based approaches are critical for robust onboarding and account recovery." Russon further highlighted that this certification bolsters the PingOne DaVinci orchestration platform, enhancing the Ping Identity portfolio.

Justin Soong, CEO of Authsignal, praised iProov's trailblazing role in the field, stating, "iProov has once again set the standard in biometrics by becoming the first and only solution to be certified by the FIDO Alliance for remote biometric identity verification technology. We are excited to continue our partnership with iProov, delivering the newly certified Dynamic Liveness Solution orchestrated with Authsignal's FIDO2/Passkeys authentication." Soong stressed the importance of this collaboration in effectively addressing emerging threats posed by generative AI attacks without compromising the user experience.
