In the heart of Guadalajara, Mexico, a new landmark is rising from the ground. "Legend", a 190m-tall mixed-use tower, has begun its journey towards the sky. The project, designed by the renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in collaboration with Mexico City-based Estudio AMA, promises to redefine the city's skyline.

The 52-floor structure, with a gross floor area of 110,000 square meters, will be a hub of activity, housing office spaces, shops, a 190-room Hilton hotel, and 178 residential units. The tower's design philosophy revolves around the concept of "indoor-outdoor living", with living spaces featuring floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that lead to balconies and terraces, blurring the line between the interior and exterior.

As with many mixed-use developments, the base of the tower will be dedicated to retail outlets, providing a vibrant shopping experience for both residents and visitors. The midpoint and roof of the tower will feature communal amenities on terraces, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding cityscape.

The construction of Legend will prioritize the use of local materials, showcasing the region's rich resources. The concrete façade has been meticulously designed to reduce heating and cooling loads, demonstrating the project's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability.

José Luis Palacios, SOM's design principal, emphasized the tower's unique architectural expression, stating, "The design brings an architecture expressive of mass and weight with a sense of proportion that is unique to the region." This statement underscores the project's aim to create a structure that not only stands tall but also reflects the essence of Guadalajara's architectural heritage.

Andrés Muñoz Alarcón, the founder of Estudio AMA, described Legend as "the culmination of the best minds collaborating to achieve the most representative project of Guadalajara." He further added, "Inspired by local traditions and seeking evolution to become the project that will represent a historic change in its context." These words highlight the collaborative effort behind the project and its aspirations to become a symbol of progress and change in the city.

With a projected completion date of 2029, Legend is set to become a new icon in Guadalajara's urban landscape. As construction progresses, the tower will gradually rise, casting its shadow over the city and capturing the imagination of its inhabitants. The amalgamation of residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces within a single structure represents a modern approach to urban living, where convenience and accessibility are paramount.

Legend's ascension marks a significant milestone in Guadalajara's development, showcasing the city's ambition to embrace innovative architectural designs while staying true to its roots. As the tower takes shape, it will undoubtedly attract attention from around the world, putting Guadalajara on the map as a destination for cutting-edge architecture and urban development.
