Delta Air Lines has revised its employee uniform policy in response to a recent controversy involving two flight attendants who wore Palestinian flag pins, which sparked a backlash on social media.

The airline's new dress code, implemented as of Monday, now prohibits employees from displaying pins representing any country other than the United States.

Last week, a passenger posted a photograph without consent, showcasing two flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins, labeling them as Hamas badges. The post quickly went viral, triggering widespread criticism aimed at Delta Air Lines.

Initially, Delta's official response on social media was dismissive, stating, Nothing to worry, this is being investigated already, followed by, I hear you as I'd be terrified as well. However, these comments were swiftly deleted, and the airline issued an apology, describing the initial response as hurtful and confirming the removal of the inappropriate reply.

The Delta Association of Flight Attendants addressed a letter to CEO Ed Bastian on July 11, expressing concern over the flight attendants' subsequent harassment due to the circulated photos and false allegations. The union criticized Delta's handling of the situation, accusing the airline of showing contempt for its employees and failing to prioritize their safety.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, condemned Delta's initial response, labeling it as anti-Palestinian racism.

Prior to this incident, Delta's policy allowed employees more flexibility with uniform accessories, including the display of flag pins. However, the uproar surrounding the Palestinian flag pins underscores ongoing tensions related to Israel's conflict with Hamas, which have prompted protests nationwide.

Delta Air Lines, known for promoting an environment of inclusivity and respect, now faces scrutiny over its handling of diversity issues among its workforce.
