Manufacturer Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing has issued a recall for a line of heat pumps due to a defect that poses a risk of excessive heat exposure. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that power interruptions in the heat pumps could cause them to resume heating mode, even if the thermostat is set for cooling. This malfunction presents a significant risk to building occupants.

The recall encompasses approximately 56,000 units branded under Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD. These units were sold by independent heating and cooling dealers from June 2022 through April 2024.

Facility managers who acquired these recalled units should have been contacted by the manufacturer for a remote software update to correct the issue. For units not connected to WiFi, owners are advised to reach out to the manufacturer for instructions on how to repair the units manually.

This recall follows a recent recall by the same manufacturer for similar units. In that case, the units' serial plates listed incorrect electrical ratings, leading to potential incorrect wiring and fire hazards. Despite the defects, no injuries have been reported.

Facility managers and homeowners using the affected models must prioritize safety by ensuring their units are updated or repaired according to the manufacturer's instructions. For more information or assistance, they should contact Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing directly.
