Bokaro Steel Breaks Production Records in January 2025

In a remarkable achievement for Bokaro Steel Plant, a subsidiary of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the SAS 2 and CCS departments successfully produced a record-breaking 337,500 metric tons of crude steel in January 2025. This remarkable feat not only exceeded its own benchmarks but also set a new monthly crude steel production record across the entire SAIL network.

Before this achievement, the Bhilai Steel Plant held the previous record for monthly crude steel production with 337,184 metric tons. The new record from Bokaro demonstrates the plant's growing capacity and efficient operations, and it is expected to inspire further improvements across other SAIL plants.

Collaborative Effort Behind the Record

This record production was made possible through the diligent efforts of several departments and teams working together in harmony. Arvind Kumar, the General Manager at the Bokaro Steel Plant, alongside his team, received congratulations from Executive Director (In-charge) C.R. Mahapatra and the top management of the plant for their outstanding performance.

This milestone also reflects the support and dedication of contractual workers and the cooperating departments that have contributed to this achievement. The joint efforts of the entire workforce are a testament to the plant’s commitment to operational excellence.

Record Hot Metal Production at Blast Furnace Department

Another significant achievement for the Bokaro Steel Plant is the record production of hot metal from its blast furnace department in January 2025. The department produced an all-time high of 468,010 metric tons of hot metal, breaking its previous monthly record set in March 2024, when it had produced 437,837 metric tons.

This new record was made possible by the optimal functioning of four blast furnaces at the plant. Three of these furnaces, numbered 1, 2, and 5, produced impressive amounts of hot metal:

• Furnace 1: 109,989 metric tons

• Furnace 2: 141,824 metric tons

• Furnace 5: 109,923 metric tons

Combined, these contributions led to the 468,010 metric tons of hot metal produced in January 2025, further solidifying Bokaro Steel's position as a key player in the Indian steel industry.

The Path to Achieving These Milestones

To achieve such production levels, the Bokaro Steel Plant has made several technological advancements and improvements in its production processes. This includes enhancing the efficiency of its blast furnaces, upgrading its steel-making infrastructure, and implementing more energy-efficient techniques.

The plant has also optimized its resource management and production scheduling, ensuring that all departments work in tandem for peak performance. Automation and data-driven decision-making have played a key role in ensuring smoother operations and maintaining high levels of output.
