These companies continue to sell their products, originally intended for the Ukrainian market, in Russia. According to Kommersant, a prominent Russian publication, home appliances from renowned manufacturers such as Bosch, Delonghi, and Philips have been found on sale in the Russian market, complete with stickers, documentation, and instructions in Ukrainian.
The availability of these products on Russian online marketplaces like Ozon, Wildberries, and Yandex Market, as well as in electronic retail chain stores, was confirmed by Kommersant's sources within the home appliance market and through their own investigation. Dmitry Shashkin, the CEO of Russian home appliance manufacturer Kuppersberg, acknowledged the prevalence of these shipments, attributing it to recommendations from foreign brands to their Turkish, Polish, and Baltic factories to maintain their market presence in Russia.
Kommersant journalists also discovered a specific model of Bosch dishwasher, marked for delivery to Kyiv and accompanied by Ukrainian instructions, on sale at various stores, including M.Video, Citilink, Yandex Market, and Holodilnik.ru. While M.Video-Eldorado and Yandex Market asserted that the appliances being sold comply with Russian regulations, the former Russian branch of the German conglomerate Bosch, BSH Home Appliances, claimed to have no data on the sale of appliances manufactured for the Ukrainian market in Russia.
Further confirmation of this trend came from Dmitry Khludnev, head of the home appliance company Weissgauff, who verified that foreign manufacturers' products, including those from Bosch, Delonghi, and Philips, originally destined for Ukraine, are being supplied to Russia. Another source at a Russian retailer revealed to Kommersant that these imports began in the second quarter of 2024, attributing the shift to decreased consumer demand in Ukraine due to the consequences of the Russian invasion.
This development stands in stark contrast to the actions of several well-known home appliance manufacturers, such as Electrolux, Tefal, Braun, and Rowenta, who had previously blocked supplies to Russia in accordance with international sanctions imposed following the onset of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. The circumvention of these sanctions by some Western companies raises concerns about the effectiveness of the measures taken to pressure Russia economically.
