ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has officially launched Optigal®, a world-class colour coated steel brand utilizing a cutting-edge Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium metallic coating. This product, previously available only in global markets, is now being produced and distributed in India for the first time, reinforcing AM/NS India's commitment to introducing internationally benchmarked quality products.
The launch event, held in Kochi, Kerala, was led by CEO Dilip Oommen.
Production of Optigal® has commenced at AM/NS India's Pune plant, representing the first phase of a broader strategy that will include additional facilities in the future. The company currently has a colour-coated capacity of about 700,000 metric tons, with plans to increase this to 1 million t metric tons by 2026. This expansion is expected to boost AM/NS India's market share from 20-22% to 25-27%.
Optigal® employs a unique ZAM alloy technology that involves hot-dip coating steel strips in a zinc, aluminium, and magnesium alloy bath. The inclusion of magnesium significantly enhances both performance and durability. The product's substrate and paint combination ensures high formability and improved corrosion protection, making it ideal for construction products. Additionally, Optigal® is eco-friendly, free from hexavalent chromium and heavy metals, promoting safety and sustainability.
1. Exceptional Cut-Edge Protection: Reduces paint delamination on edges and scratches, outperforming other metal coatings by at least three times.
2. Superior Corrosion Resistance: The unique alloy composition provides enhanced corrosion resistance.
3. Optimized Flexibility: The adherent metallic layer allows for processing through bending, roll forming, and profiling without cracking.
4. Globally Benchmarked Product: Optigal® has been internationally tested and certified for quality.
