Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair emphasized the economic impact and growth potential of Samkee's investment, stating that the new facility adds strength to Alabama's automotive supply chain and reinforces the state's position as a hub for automotive manufacturing.
The new manufacturing plant, situated in Tuskegee Commerce Park, is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for Macon County, projecting an annual economic output of $140.2 million and contributing approximately $1.5 million annually in new tax revenue, according to estimates from the Alabama Department of Commerce.
In addition to economic benefits, the facility will provide 170 new jobs with an average wage of slightly over $20 per hour, enhancing employment opportunities in the region and supporting local economic growth.
Alabama, known for its robust automotive industry, ranks among the top states nationally for automotive production and leads in auto exports. The state currently employs around 50,000 individuals in the automotive sector, underscoring its pivotal role in the U.S. automotive manufacturing landscape.
The launch of Samkee's Tuskegee facility reflects a broader trend of automotive manufacturers and suppliers investing in rural communities across Alabama. Brenda Tuck, rural development manager for the Alabama Department of Commerce, highlighted the attractiveness of Alabama's rural areas for such investments, noting over $2 billion in growth projects in rural communities since 2015.
