In a groundbreaking development, Milrem Robotics and AEC Skyline have successfully integrated Starlink satellite communications and associated equipment into the THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle. This integration enables the UGV to be controlled over vast distances, allowing operators to remain at a secure location, even thousands of kilometers away from the battlefield. The integration of this advanced communication system marks a significant milestone in the field of military robotics, enhancing safety and efficiency in combat operations.

The communication system has been integrated into the THeMIS Cargo CASEVAC, a UGV currently deployed in Ukraine to assist Ukrainian soldiers in their ongoing conflict with Russia. Additionally, Ukrainian forces are utilizing THeMIS UGVs configured for route clearance. By leveraging satellite connectivity, the robotic vehicle can seamlessly transmit data, receive commands, and relay vital information in real-time, regardless of its location on the battlefield.

Raul Rikk, Capability Development Director at Milrem Robotics, emphasized the significance of this development, stating, "This development marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of military robotics, offering unparalleled capabilities for remote operation and situational awareness. With satellite communications, operators can maintain control over the robot from a safe and strategic vantage point, minimising the risks associated with direct human involvement in combat zones."

AEC Skyline's CEO, Stef Have, highlighted the strong partnership between the two companies, stating, "Since 2021, AEC Skyline and Milrem Robotics have been unwavering in deepening their cooperation. I am proud to see our critical data solutions division act as an integration partner when it comes to inserting new technologies, including this latest SATCOM-based capability, into our partner's growing range of world-leading UGVs."

The integration of Starlink SATCOM into the THeMIS UGV represents a significant step forward in the field of military robotics. By enabling remote operation and enhanced situational awareness, this development has the potential to revolutionize the way military operations are conducted. The ability to control UGVs from a safe distance reduces the risk to human operators and allows for more efficient deployment of resources in combat situations.

As the technology continues to evolve, it is expected that more advanced communication systems will be integrated into military robotics, further enhancing their capabilities and effectiveness on the battlefield. The collaboration between Milrem Robotics and AEC Skyline demonstrates the importance of partnerships in driving innovation and advancing the field of military robotics.

The successful integration of Starlink SATCOM into the THeMIS UGV is a testament to the dedication and expertise of both Milrem Robotics and AEC Skyline. As the demand for advanced military robotics continues to grow, it is likely that we will see more groundbreaking developments in the near future, further transforming the landscape of modern warfare.
