In a testament to its prowess in emission control technologies, Rheinmetall has once again demonstrated its position as a leading tier-1 supplier by securing a significant order from a long-standing customer in the commercial vehicles segment. The order, valued in the low three-digit-million-euro range, encompasses the supply of high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation and exhaust backpressure valves for the customer's truck segment.

This order marks another milestone in a customer relationship spanning over a decade, during which Rheinmetall has continuously enhanced and refined its combustion engine components to meet the highest standards of performance and customer expectations. The EGR and exhaust backpressure valves play a crucial role in reducing harmful emissions by feeding nitrogen oxide emissions back into the combustion process and optimizing engine performance.

Production of this substantial batch is scheduled to commence in January 2027 and continue until 2030. The contract also includes the supply of spare parts amounting to approximately 10% of annual sales. Rheinmetall's success in securing this order can be attributed to the cost-efficient, failsafe design, and long service life of its components, as well as their ability to withstand high thermal and mechanical stresses, outperforming market competitors.

Exhaust gas recirculation is a vital technology for reducing pollutants in gasoline and diesel engines. The exhaust gas is extracted downstream of the cylinders, routed through the EGR valve, and mixed back into the intake air, resulting in less oxygen entering the cylinders. This process leads to a lower combustion temperature and reduces the amount of nitrogen oxide by up to 70%, as higher temperatures contribute to increased nitrogen oxide production.

In diesel vehicles, backpressure valves are installed in the intake tract to ensure the necessary pressure difference on the exhaust and intake sides, achieving the required high EGR rates. This results in reduced overall carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption. Rheinmetall's expertise extends to all aspects of precision control of the exhaust gas recirculation rate, encompassing high-pressure and low-pressure EGR systems, cold-side and hot-side mounting, as well as various housing materials and designs.

While the importance of state-of-the-art, emission-free transportation continues to grow, the market segment for diesel-powered commercial vehicles is expected to generate substantial demand for an extended period. With this order, Rheinmetall underscores its expertise as a highly competent partner in global vehicle construction across all model variants, not only for modern, all-electric vehicles but also for conventional drives and, in particular, the technology designed to reduce their emissions.

Rheinmetall's portfolio of competencies in exhaust gas recirculation and emission control technologies is tailored to the individual needs of its customers, spanning passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and industrial engines. This order further solidifies the company's position as a system partner for all aspects of precision exhaust gas recirculation control, reinforcing its commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
