Food Lion Feeds, a hunger relief initiative founded by Food Lion in 2014, recently celebrated its ninth annual Feedys Awards by recognizing a select group of partner food banks, volunteers, community leaders, and associates for their exceptional contributions to addressing food insecurity and nourishing neighbors in need across Food Lion's 10-state footprint. The honorees were celebrated for their dedication and innovative approaches to ensuring that individuals and families have access to fresh, nutritious, and affordable groceries.

Kevin Durkee, Manager of Food Lion Feeds, emphasized the company's commitment to helping families in the towns and cities they serve, stating, "At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and rent, or gas and groceries." He further highlighted the importance of the annual event in celebrating the work of partnerships throughout their 10-state footprint and honoring those working tirelessly to ensure that neighbors have access to the food they deserve.

Among the honorees was Impact Southside Food Pantry in Chesapeake, VA, which received the Food King Feeding Partner Award for its outstanding commitment to hunger relief programming and community involvement. The pantry, led by Executive Director Mechele Hairston, serves an average of 12,000 individuals or 2,500 households each month and has launched various initiatives to support those experiencing homelessness and students in need.

Larry Nowak, President of Faith Outreach Ministries of the Grand Strand in Surfside Beach, SC, was honored with the Lion Heart Volunteer Award for his exceptional skills in coordinating and motivating groups of donors and volunteers for hunger relief projects. Nowak's leadership and inspiration have helped the ministry serve more than 200 families and feed lunch to over 600 individuals monthly, as well as spearhead the opening of a veteran-operated food pantry.

Kellanova, a Food Lion supplier, was recognized with the Grand Lion for Good Vendor Award for its outstanding commitment to partnering with Food Lion Feeds in hunger relief projects. The company has helped match customer donations, provided financial support, and participated in volunteer events to support Food Lion Feeds' efforts to combat food insecurity.

The Store that Roars Motivational Award was presented to the Food Lion store at 4615 Yadkinville Road, Pfafftown, NC, for its exceptional skills in coordinating and motivating store associates, customers, and volunteers to participate in hunger relief projects.
