China's Ministry of Commerce recently declared the commencement of a one-year sunset review investigation concerning the anti-dumping measures applied to imports of stainless steel billet and hot-rolled stainless steel coils from the EU, the UK, South Korea, and Indonesia. This review is a response to appeals from domestic industry stakeholders advocating for a fair and sustainable market environment. The probe, beginning on Tuesday, will conclude before July 23, 2025, and during this period, the previously established duties will persist.

The MOFCOM's decision underscores the gravity of the domestic industry's concerns. According to recommendations from the MOFCOM, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has determined that the existing tariffs, announced in July 2019, will remain effective. Specifically, stainless steel products from the EU and UK will continue to face a 43% tariff. South Korea's POSCO will be subject to a 23.1% tariff, while other South Korean companies will face a 103.1% tariff. Indonesian companies will incur a 20.2% tariff. However, anti-dumping measures on corresponding products from Japan will cease as of Tuesday.
