The Wings and Things Festival at Wildwood Naval Air Station recently revved up excitement among automotive enthusiasts with a stunning display of over 100 modern muscle cars, curated by Blinker Fluid Productions. Held against the backdrop of historic military aircraft, this year's event marked its fourth edition, drawing crowds eager to explore both automotive excellence and local history.
Jamie Longmuir, co-founder of Blinker Fluid Productions, expressed enthusiasm about showcasing these contemporary classics. "These are your future classics, basically," Longmuir remarked. "To younger generations, these cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s will become their classic icons."
The festival, initially launched in 2019 and briefly paused due to the pandemic, not only celebrated automotive prowess but also served as a community-centric affair. Attendees enjoyed browsing through more than 25 craft vendors while participating in various family-friendly activities. Austin Myers, event organizer, highlighted the festival's evolution. "This year, we added muscle cars to attract a different crowd," Myers explained, emphasizing the event's appeal to both car enthusiasts and local families.
Central to the festival's charm was the Wildwood Naval Air Station's historical ambiance. Nestled amidst military artifacts and exhibits, the event provided a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate the museum's rich heritage. The setting resonated deeply with attendees like Justin Skyler Daniels, from Farpoint Toys and Collectibles, who noted the contrast with typical car shows. "It's not just about cars; it's about the entire experience," Daniels reflected.
Highlighting the station's historical significance, Mark Kulkowitz discussed The Longest Yarn, an 80-meter wool tapestry recounting the D-Day invasion, which will soon find a home at the museum. Inspired by Army veteran Harry Kulkowitz's experiences, this artistic tribute underscores the site's dual role in preserving military history and fostering community engagement.
Penelope Daniels, also a festival participant, shared her husband's passion for cars, showcasing their 2023 widebody Scat Pack Dodge Challenger, affectionately dubbed The Farpoint Interceptor. Paying homage to iconic movie cars like those in "Mad Max," their vehicle added a cinematic flair to the event, reflecting a broader cultural fascination with automotive storytelling.
