Pneumatic Components, a renowned Sheffield-based brand for tyre inflation and compressed air products, has recently expanded its operations with the acquisition of Colson X-Cel, a prominent valve manufacturer located in Rotherham. The acquisition, which was officially completed earlier this month, is set to bolster PCL's portfolio and strengthen the international strategy of its ultimate shareholder, INDUS Holding AG, which focuses on "local-for-local manufacturing."

Colson X-Cel, with a workforce of approximately 40 employees, generates annual sales of around £6 million and has been a key supplier of valves to the chemical, offshore, oil, and gas industries since the 1990s. The company's state-of-the-art facility, situated just outside Sheffield, is responsible for machining, assembling, testing, and quality assuring its range of double block and bleed and instrument valves.

The addition of Colson X-Cel's portfolio is expected to complement the HORNGROUP's expert solutions for refuelling and workshop applications, as well as PCL's existing product range, which includes the brand's "Made in Sheffield" products. This strategic move aims to enhance the overall offerings of both companies and provide customers with a more comprehensive selection of high-quality products.

Following the acquisition, Colson X-Cel will continue to operate under the leadership of its existing directors, James Hinchliffe (Sales) and Dean Groombridge (Production). Additionally, James Houston, Dean Battersby, and Lee Wright will join the board of directors, bringing their expertise to guide the company's future growth and success.

Lee Wright, the managing director of PCL, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition to the family, stating, "Colson X-Cel's South Yorkshire roots and dedication to UK manufacturing, coupled with its exacting standards for product performance, safety, and reliability, make it the ideal addition to our fold, where customer satisfaction comes first. It's clear that we share many of the same values and ideas."

As PCL and Colson X-Cel embark on this new chapter, their primary focus will be to support and facilitate future growth while exploring potential synergistic benefits for both businesses in the long term. The acquisition is expected to strengthen PCL's position in the market and provide customers with an enhanced range of products and services.
